20/20 Mind Sight is a book written by Phil Fragasso and Jillian Vorce. The book is broken up into 20 short chapters that provides you with self-knowledge and personal reflection. It begins by discussing how people can "take a backseat to our own lives" (Fragasso & Vorce 1). People think so much about what other people think and try to define themselves based on society. This book addresses that and talks about understanding yourself. "The primary objective in creating a 20/20 mindset is to smash that externally generated mirror and allow our psyche to flourish in a way that achieves maximum personal satisfaction and delivers maximum value to the people, organizations, and world around us" (Fragasso & Vorce 2). It discusses about how this book is all about figuring out yourself and self-love. Each chapter begins by discussing part of our personality and then going into talking about how we can understand ourselves better through different features.
The book features several different exercises that would help readers understand themselves and develop a personal brand. The first exercise the book discusses is the Johari Window. It talks about how we see ourselves and how others see us. The Johari Window talks about the three conflicting realities there are about ourselves: the you as you see yourself, the you as you're seen by others, and the you as you want to be seen by others. It is a self-actualization tool to understand the I in YOU. The next exercise is the Jung Typology Test. This test talks about your passion and tells you what type of personality you have. Another is understanding your 'yes, buts," and your emotional intelligence. Understanding your fears and gaining confidence is a big part of self-love as well. Another example is the Implicit Association Test which is a look at the biases you hold and that is eye-opening. The next example is the Grit Survey which measures your resilience. The Locus of Control test shows you if you believe you control your own destiny or if some outside influences do. The overall purpose of the book is to learn about yourself, live your live, and to love yourself.
I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it to others. It was a really quick and easy read and was very eye-opening to me. It definitely made me think about my own life and how I think about it myself. I think it is great to read especially with today's society because our generation is so consumed with social media and I think it plays a large role in how people present themselves. It makes me think about what I love about my life and all the people I have in my life and actually makes me more appreciative of my life than thinking about how to change my life. I would definitely read this book though! It is so important to have a positive attitude and love yourself.
