Social Media Diary

I tracked my social media usage on two separate days this past weekend. I tracked the usage on a Saturday and on a Monday. The social media platforms that I used the most were Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Apple music, and messages. On Saturday I spent significantly less time on my phone than usual because we had recruitment for my sorority. I think I usually use my phone less on the weekends anyways, but Saturday was even less time than usual. I noticed that I always wake up and immediately go on my phone, because I use the alarm on my phone and then instantly check Snapchat and Instagram because it helps me wake up. Also because of the way my generation has grown up with technology, I think it has become an addiction and a habit to be on our phones constantly and I hate it sometimes. I love that we have technology and I find it so interesting how it has evolved so much, but I definitely have become addicted. Sometimes I delete the apps to get a break from social media, but they never last long because I feel like I am missing out on so much. I also check the apps so much when I am bored or when I am procrastinating homework. I almost always never check my phone when I am eating with people, because it is one of my pet peeves when people go on their phones while I'm eating with them because I think it is so rude and we don't have to be on our phones all the time. I think I use Snapchat, messages, and Instagram about an hour total each day because that's how I communicate with my friends and family. I use twitter because I think it's so funny and that's how I stay updated on memes and trending things. I also listen to music when I'm getting ready, showering, walking to class, and when I need to relax. Music is a big platform for me and I probably spend two hours total every day on it. I make it a big deal to not check my phone when I am busy or doing anything important. I want to focus on myself and make sure that I am focused. This activity made me realize that I still spend more time on social media platforms than I thought and than I want to spend and I am going to try to spend even less time on them from now on.
